Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers — FIBCs, big bags, jumbo bags — carry everything from chemicals and fertilisers to food ingredients and construction minerals. Choosing the wrong bag, or the wrong manufacturer, shows up later as torn loops, contaminated product or a rejected export shipment. Here is what experienced buyers check.
Safety factor and bag construction
Every FIBC is rated by its safe working load (SWL) and safety factor (SF):
- SF 5:1 — standard single-trip bags
- SF 6:1 — multi-trip bags, built for reuse
- Lifting: cross-corner or side-seam loops, single-point or four-point
Ask the manufacturer for the test certificates behind the rating — top-lift tests to six times SWL are the industry benchmark, and a serious producer runs them routinely.
The four electrostatic types
Powders and flammable environments dictate the bag''s electrostatic class: Type A (no protection), Type B (low breakdown voltage), Type C (conductive, must be earthed) and Type D (static-dissipative, no earthing needed). Specifying the wrong type around solvents or combustible dust is a genuine safety failure — state your application and let the manufacturer confirm the class in writing.
Fabric, liners and coatings
- Coated (laminated) fabric keeps moisture and fine powders in; uncoated fabric breathes
- Polyethylene liners for hygroscopic or fine products — form-fit liners for clean discharge
- UV stabilisation matters in the Gulf: bags stored in the open degrade fast without it
- Food-grade production requires a controlled, certified environment — ask to see the certificate, not just the claim
Print, design and filling details
Top options (open, skirt, filling spout), bottom options (flat, discharge spout), baffles for square stacking, document pouches and up to multi-colour printing — a capable manufacturer engineers the bag around your filling line, not the other way round.
Why buy from a UAE manufacturer
Imported bags mean eight-week lead times and no recourse when a batch fails inspection. A local manufacturer offers short runs, fast repeat orders, factory visits and immediate technical support. Blue Line Industries manufactures FIBC jumbo bags in the UAE under our Jumbo Bags division, supplying chemical, food and construction customers across the Gulf — alongside the industrial products those bags carry.
Getting a quotation
